Festival Finds

dress - beard&bow // moccasins - Minnetonka // sunglasses - etsy // rose salve

This summer I am so excited to attend, in my opinion, two of the best festivals of the summer, and the best part about it is they are both hosted in two of the most beautiful locations in Wales.

Next month I will be heading out to this years Green Man Festival in the Black Mountains, South Wales. The most exciting part of the festival season is the build up, the preparation and of course deciding what to wear.

Here are just a few items I can't live without during festival season. First and foremost the staple part of any vintage lovers wardrobe, the vintage patterned dress and I have had my eye on this one for a while. At most festivals a pair of welly boots are essential, but if by chance the weather is good to us all and the ground is dry a durable pair of Minnetonka moccasins are fashion, on trend and practical. Let's face it during a weekend rolling around in a field and being generally exposed to the elements and good lip salve is great for keep the chapped lips at bay, and of course this one also adds a hint of colour. And of course last but not least a perfect pair of vintage sunglasses to cover those tired hungover eyes.

What festivals are you attending this summer.

c'mon darling, let me steal this moment from you now

This look takes librarian to the extreme, my best friend recently gave me a bag full of vintage items to sell on Auntie Shirley's I picked this dress to keep for myself. The colours are perfect and the pattern is so delicate. I teamed it with this mustard cardi to pick out the gold detail. I've had an exciting week discussing a brand new project I have been working on. It's all hush hush at the minute but I am so excited to get my project under way!

Dress - Vintage // Cardi - Red Herring // Bag - FOR SALE //Lips - Rimmel Apocalips in Luna

I have been selling a few items on eBay but this bag is the only thing left, it's a perfect size for popping out during the day, or for a night out. Low starting bid so get your hands on a bargain!

This last week has been a strange one, plenty of time to reflect. Not a drop of alcohol has somehow given me a clear head. I'm organising, rearranging and preparing and I'm excited. I'm on top of my Uni work, creating a regular blogging schedule and attempting to get fit, oh and somewhere amongst all of that, this year I plan to meet my future husband, someone pass me the gin, I'm delusional. January is always filled with good intentions, let see how long they last and how quickly I can bag Jason Segel.

I cried a tear because of you

I haven't done an outfit post for months and now I have my new camera I decided to share with you some recent finds. I instagramed this dress last week after receiving it from Ebay, you guys seemed to love it and lets just say it went down a storm on what's becoming a regular Friday Gin Night.
I'm forever scrolling through Ebay finding bargains, but this believe it or not only cost me 1p, I know I couldn't believe it either. Here I've just teamed it with a vintage cardigan from my Auntie Shirley and some zip detail boots.

Going Dotty for Dorothy Perkins

Going Dotty for Dorothy Perkins.
A story of this week Midi obsession.

This week I am totally loving the new midi dresses on offer at Dorothy Perkins. Both dresses pictured above have the same shape and style but I'm showing two totally different ways to wear them. I love block colours and then teaming it up with colourful accessories. I have an obsession with scarves, but what I'm not lusting over are snoods, I own a few but if I am reaching into my wardrobe for anything it is usually a lightweight scarf and believe me my collection is huge and varied. This grey dress is perfect for comfort day to day or you could even dress it up for a night out.
NOTE: This style doesn't suit everyone, If you are short this will not flatter your enviable petiteness. But I am one for trying on everything, I am an odd shape so if you like it, try it, you might be pleasantly surprised.
Two of my favourite style at the moment are Midi and Pleats, so paired together with this evening dress is perfect, on close inspection you will find not only the large bold polka dot but small delicate one's too. I just love the taupe and navy combination. Teamed with these adorable navy heels, make a statement with the bold colour.
This month I have been loving Moroccan Oil; at the beginning of the year I removed my dreadlocks, now my hair is in awful condition. I have been contemplating starting over and having a pixie crop, but I have done this is the past and I'm not sure that it suits me, but for the time being I think I'm going to perceiver and see what looking after my locks does for a while before considering something so drastic.
Another item that is always to hand is Burt's Bees Lip Balm, I bought this in the summer when I was working in Holland. After weeks of non stop partying my body was feeling less than impressed. Now I apply this at least 20 times a day, not through need of touching up because in fact this Lip Balm lasts for hours and smells incredible, I just do it out of complete habit.

Now who said the nighties had possibly the worst era for fashion? Oh wait that was me. Growing up it was all Lycra and shimmer. I was competley unaware of the incredible grunge scene going on around me, you see I was far too young, but the second time around you can throw me the acid wash, baggy knits and plaid because my friends I'm in! Dust off those Doc Martens and bring out the oversized leather jackets. As for the hair bob it, shave it, dye it, curl it or grow it out. Whatever your look the roots have to be as dark as possible. The more unkept you looked the better. Slash it, flash it or just trash it. Dresses aren't meant to be pretty, those famous flat boots with the yellow stitching it's time to dress down everything you own.
Think androgynous, not over styled, think rock n roll, think unique, think attitude.
These days designers aren't draping their models in charity shop finds or bin dived goodies, instead they are deliberately distressing jeans and slashing holes in t shirt. Adding more lace, glitter & accessories. The deliberately over worked garments are meant to create the illusion of the morning after the night before look, it's not cheap to create this look, many are selling for hundreds even thousands to look as trashed as possible. But who do we find dressing like this? Thirty something professionals with a steady income and big bucks to be splashing out, no it's the 20's somethings working part time for probably minimum wage, funding their way through uni. Bin dive if you must, trawl the many charity shops for over sized flannel shirts and the natural dirt and life experience grounded into that old work man's denim jacket.
